Carnivorous trees and two-faced hats!

Personal News!

Ugh, I'm exhausted.

Last night was the first night that Ottoto has slept in my room while my mom's cousin is here, sleeping in his room. It's not so bad, but his cot takes up my entire floor, so I have to jump over it to get to my desk and art supplies and school books and such. Pain in the ass. At least he's not snoring though, or I'd boot him out on the couch.

I kid of course. I'm not that mean.

I had a pretty busy weekend, which is why no one saw me :ninja: Well, I was on Friday for my Ustream broadcast, which got cut a little short, but I wasn't really on. Saturday I spent like the whole day knitting -_-; I was making a reversible hat. I'll post the pictures of it probably tomorrow. I also have a painting to post as well. God I love painting :D Anyway, I'll rant about the hat in a little bit.

Dinner with ~SummerSkyRose was SO AWESOME. I haven't seen her in like, forever, then we have this really great time XD Also, I forgot how well I get along with her younger brother. He probably doesn't remember this, but he's responsible for the creation of Dracenos, my chimera character. Of course, that was when he was younger. Probably about 8. Anyway, back to the point. Dinner was so good, and it was really great to catch up with SSR, though I feel like I did most of the talking XD I talk so damn much.

Yesterday was crazy, only because there was some confusion about when to go to the airport. Oh flight schedules, you're a funny funny thing. Ottoto and I tried to squeeze in as much Tales of Symphonia as possible. Which never seems like a whole lot with all those Goddamn cut scenes. POINTLESS ONES.

Picture this: You're playing a game, and you come to a point where you can progress no further because there is a large tree-like monster sleeping in the middle of the path you need to take. You can't go around it, and your attacks bounce off it. One of your NPCs mentions that this particular monster is a carnivore (lol whut? It's a tree!) and will wake up if there is a smaller monster it wants to eat. You are able to summon monsters. You have like 20 monsters at your disposal, and you know that you have two identical monsters. You'd want to throw out that extra monster wouldn't you? BUT NO.

First the game MAKES you go out at catch a new monster with a pointless fishing minigame. THEN the characters have to whine about how sad it is that the monster is going to get eaten, so they devise a plan to use the monster as a distraction, and then pull it back before it gets eaten. So then we try to implement this plan, which should be as simple as "here's the monster *run past* lol I lied". BUT THEY HAVE TO MAKE A 15 MINUTE CUT SCENE OUT OF IT. See, to me, it perhaps would have been a bit more interesting to actually have control of the character, and run past the monster yourself, rather then having the game do it for you, making one of your characters trip, and forcing you to watch pointless dialogue that did NOTHING to progress the story! I mean, it was nothing! Why did it have to happen at all?

Ototto and I found it hilarious that we had to fight the tree monster like twenty minutes later, since it was pissed that we didn't just feed it the monster instead of faking it out. It killed us like three times before we were finally able to kill in. OH MAN GUYS, WE'RE SO COOL. WE KILLED A TREE.

So excited. Heroes tonight. And I don't have my night class X3 So I get to watch it! I also get to go take a nap in a little bit. Ooooooh I love naps X3 I just hope my grandmother's dog doesn't, like, slobber all over me while I'm sleeping again. I can't remember if I've mentioned this before, but he's a Bouvier de Flanders, which is the same kind of dog that my character Jin MacRowe is. They're really big dogs. Like the size of a pony. I could ride this dog if I were brave enough. As a child I think I did ride a Bouvier, but only for a second or two. Anyway, yeah, this dog inspired Jin. All this time I'm spending around him makes me want to draw more Jin.

Art News!

Don't expect reversible hats to make it onto the commission list any time soon. I've done double knitting before with positive results as you may remember, but here's the deal: double knitting is exactly what the name implies. Knitting twice. It's essentially like knitting the exact same piece twice, at once. When I started the hat, I didn't consider the fact that at some point, I would have to do decreases.

Let me lay this out for you. When you do double knitting (and someday, I'm going to do video tutorials of my knitting so you guys will at least be able to see what the hell I'm talking about), you have double the number of stitches that you normally would have. So if your scarf was going to be like this:

:bulletgreen::bulletgreen::bulletgreen:

with green being the primary color, or MC (master color). It becomes something like this when you DK:

:bulletgreen::bulletred::bulletgreen::bulletred::bulletgreen::bulletred:

With the :bulletgreen: being one side of the fabric (the green side), and :bulletred: being the other side (the red side). You can switch the side that the colors appear on with certian knitting strategies, but the easiest way to think about this is that you are knitting two things on one needle. Now the part that was giving me grief was the decreases. A decrease is basically a way of knitting that lessens the number or stitches. The one I like to use is called "Knit two together," or k2t. This basically is just sticking your needle through two stitches at a time instead of one, thus creating one stitch. Just trust me on that one.

The problem is that if I k2t, the fabric would start to look wonky with DK, because the colors wouldn't be separate anymore (because if the stitches are :bulletgreen::bulletred::bulletgreen:, there is a :bulletred: between you and the other stitch on the same side of the fabric). So I had to physically separate the two crowns and finish them individually. Which took a lot of time XD

Anyway, that's my knitting rant today. Expect pics of that hat soon. Despite the amount of work that went into it, I'm so happy with the way it turned out :3

Nothing really else to report. Going to buy new art supplies tomorrow, so expect more finished marker work before the end of the week!

The extra effort put into the hat must have made it seem better. Wat to go, though. I could never imagine knitting. Not with my huge mitts.

I'd love to sit here and argue with you, but I don't have an hour to prove you're an idiot.
:iconneko-daewen:
XD I think so too. It was very much an "OMG IT'S DOUBLE SIDED" thing then an "OMG IT'S A HAT" thing XD

I wouldn't know. I have freaky-dainty hands, so I can't relate.
